Train like an Olympic Gymnast! Children?s gymnastic classes to be taught by Olympic Silver Medalist at the Los Angeles School of Gymnastics.

Every Olympic athlete begins the same way, with a great coach at a fantastic gymnastics studio.

Olympic Fever is palpable at Los Angeles School of Gymnastics, a premier gymnastics training facility in Culver City, CA, and home to Olympic medalists, coaches, and hopefuls.

With the incredible success of Simone Biles and other U.S. gymnasts this year, the ?Olympic Fever? has swept through Los Angeles School of Gymnastics, stimulating children of all ages to engage in courses, training programs, and after school programs focused to one day becoming an Olympic medalist.

An Olympics Silver Medalist, LA School of Gymnastics Head Coach Yefim Furman serves as the NBC Olympics consultant for the 2016 Olympic Games TV coverage in Rio.

Coach Yefim, as he is affectionately known by his students back in Culver City, shares his ground-floor experience of the ?Fierce Five? performance, men?s gymnastics events, trampoline, and tumbling categories, directly from Rio.

The Olympics Spirit is also shared by Executive Director Alla Svirsky, a three-time Olympic coach, seven times USA Gymnastics Coach of the Year, USA Olympic Judge and an Inductee to the Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
Ms. Svirsky was involved in 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic Games, where she coached athletes or served on the judging panel. She is very excited about the success that the USA athletes have had at the Olympics over the many decades, culminating with this year?s unprecedented performance.

Tanya Berenson, General Manager at Los Angeles School of Gymnastics happily accepts the Olympic coverage from the ground floor in Rio for the community to enjoy. As a strong supporter of the Olympics and gymnastics training in Los Angeles, Ms. Berenson was featured in the #LA2024 campaign video to bring the Summer Olympics back to Los Angeles 40 years after it hosted the ?84 Games.

The LA School Of Gymnastics is a nonprofit organization run and managed by Olympic participants, medalists, and coaches. LA School of Gymnastics offers programs for kids ages 3 and up and a multitude of skill sets.
This organic program is mindful of the Rio Olympics that your children watch on TV. The children?s gymnastics program is located in Culver City, California and their facility accommodates classes at all times of the day.

The 2016 Olympics in Rio are an international, steadfast tradition of athletic prowess and lifelong dedication.

The Summer Olympic Games occur every four years and their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games held in Olympic, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. This year is the first time that the Olympics have ever been held in South America.

2016 Olympic Men?s Gymnastics Who, Where, and Interesting Facts

With the first event kicking off on August the 6th at the Arena Ol?mpica do Rio this is set to be a very exciting competition. With Team USA planning a comeback after their 5th place finish in London and the British team coming off their strongest year in a century of competition, there are a lot of athletes with something to prove this year.

Gymnastics is one of the most popular Olympic sports and it?s easy to see why. Olympic standard gymnasts have to tune their bodies, their co-ordination and their abilities to the highest levels, it?s also very visually exciting to watch. Here are some interesting things you may not know about the history of Men?s Gymnastics at the Olympic Games:

  • The sport has been around for over 2000 years.
  • The word Gymnastics originated from the Greek word gymnos, which literally means naked.
  • It was first introduced to the Olympics in Athens in 1896, at Olympiad I.
  • Original Olympic Gymnastic sports included Club Swinging and Rock Lifting.
  • Modern gymnastics as we know it today only emerged in 1924.

Can the Brits do it without the home ground advantage?

When London 2012 rolled around the British Men?s team had not won a team medal in 100 years. They broke the drought in London by taking out team bronze in front of an ecstatic home audience.

This has been followed up with team silver at the 2015 World Championships and they?re going into Rio with a lot of pressure on their shoulders.

Who to watch out for in Men?s Gymnastics in Rio

There are a lot of exciting athletes in the field of this year?s Men?s competition. Team USA?s Sam Mikulak has vowed to be the man to dethrone Japan?s Kohei Uchimura (who is affectionately known as Superhuman). Mikulak is a part of a team that is aiming to comeback from their disappointing results in London. He has strong form as well. Sam has taken out four straight all-round nationals titles and he was a part of the US team that took bronze at 2014?s World Championships. What he has never quite managed to do is to shine individually on the world stage, having only ever managed a 6th place all round at the 2013 World Championships.

His nemesis, Kohei Uchimura, on the other hand is widely regarded as one of the best male Gymnasts in history. He has a lot riding on taking the all round title in Rio de Janeiro as well, if he takes the all round title at Rio it will make him the first gymnast to successfully defend the title since fellow Japanese gymnast managed it in Munich in 1972. Uchimura comes into these games with six straight all round World Championship wins under his belt and he is certainly the man to beat in the men?s competition.

We are in for an exciting Men?s competition this year, and an exciting Olympiad all round, with the games shrouded in even more controversy than usual, political turmoil in the host country and some very serious rivals coming together to compete for their countries.

2016 Olympic Women?s Gymnastics Who, Where, and Interesting Facts

Between the 6th and the 21st of August, 2016, women from around the world will come together to compete at gymnastic events at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. One of the women to watch at this year?s games is Simone Biles from Team USA. The 19 year old from Columbus is being tipped as a hot favorite to take out anywhere up to 5 gold medals in Rio.

This is her first Olympic games but she has had a remarkable career with a total of 14 World Championship medals, 10 of which are gold as well as having taken pole podium position twice in the Pacific Rim Championships and at last year?s American Cup. The world?s eyes will be on this young woman, her World Championship medal haul is a record breaker and she?s widely anticipated to dominate the Women?s events this year.

The Venue

Arena Ol?mpica do Rio. The venue opened in 2007 and hosted the Pan American games in December of its opening year. It has a capacity of just under 15,000 for sporting events and is Rio?s premier arena, having played host to everything from Iron Maiden concerts to the Chicago Bulls since its construction. This year?s games mark the first time that all gymnastics events will be held in the same venue and it will also be used to host wheelchair basketball events as a part of the 2016 Paralympics later in the year.

Women?s Gymnastics at the Olympic Games

Gymnastics itself is one of the oldest Olympic sports and has been a part of every modern Summer Olympics since 1896. Women were first allowed to perform at the Olympics in 1928 and since this happened the Artistic Women?s Gymnastics events have become one of the most popular sports at the games. The first ever perfect 10 in the sport was won by Romanian Nadia Comaneci at Montreal in 1976 with another being awarded at the same games to Soviet gymnast Nellie Kim.

Comaneci was 14 when she took out the highest accolade ever awarded in Women?s Olympic Gymnastics and this began a trend of very young women being pushed to perfect by their coaches to perform at the games. As a result of this trend, by the time Sydney 2000 rolled around the minimum age for competition in the sport had been raised to 16. This did not stop China from mis-stating the age of Dong Fangxiao at the Sydney games who was just 14 when she was competed. It took a full 10 years for the Olympic committee to strip the Chinese of their team Bronze and subsequently award it to The United States as a result of this controversy.

A games with a rough start

The 2016 games have been the subject of a lot of issues and are being held at a time when Brazil is suffering both economically and immersed in political turmoil. In the true Olympic spirit though it is a games full of hope, hope for people to come together, forget their differences and compete without fear.

The girls from Team USA have already arrived in the Olympic village and they?ve been very active on social media, with slews of selfies, happy messages and an air of excitement. Let the games begin!

Benefits of Gymnastics for Boys, Girls and All Kids

Gymnastics is a high skill sport where success requires immense amount of physical strength, flexibility, perseverance, and mental tenacity. It is a superb developmental activity that is best practiced from childhood. The impact of gymnastics on a child can lead to a myriad of benefits that isn?t just limited to physical development; in fact, enrolling your child in this sport can also help them socially and academically.

Your child does not have to become a competitive gymnast to reap the benefits of engaging in this activity. Having fun doing what they love would keep ill effects like obesity at bay and encourage them to stick to a healthier and disciplined lifestyle.

Check out some benefits of gymnastics for children brought to you by Jennifer from Gymnasticslab.com

Benefits of Gymnastics for Boys

Even though the advantages of enrolling in this sport is not gender-specific, boys tend to have a slight physical advantage over girls as they get older.

An organized sport like gymnastics would offer the following benefits to your boy:

  • They get to learn the importance of discipline that is not taught in schools
  • They begin to understand how the body works and its limitations
  • Engaging in taking part in gymnastics teaches your boy the importance of team play
  • Helps them develop stronger muscles and flexible body

Benefits of Gymnastics for Girls

This sport is also very popular among girls as the sheer number of women participants in the Olympics and other global events bear witness to this fact.

Parents were wondering if it?s a good idea to enroll their daughter in gymnastics should be aware of the following benefits:

  • Helps your little girl to become self-dependent from an early age
  • Helps get rid of the conventional idea that boys are better in sports than girls
  • Helps them develop a warm and charming personality due to the socialization involved
  • Helps them build up endurance and stamina
  • Teaches the importance of struggle to stay in the competition

Benefits of Gymnastics for kids

As mentioned earlier, everyone can reap the benefits of gymnastics as most of them are not gender-specific. Kids, especially, can better adapt to challenging situations and quickly learn skills due to their greater cognitive ability. To perform a certain action, your child would have to visualize the skill beforehand, which is a great way for them to develop a correlation between their brain and body functions.

Research has found that there is a strong relationship between children who are physically fit and their academic achievement. The cognitive abilities required in a gymnastic training ground also carry over into the classroom, which can help them focus on lessons and get improved academic results.

Social and character benefits

Cultivating valuable social skills are a necessity in gymnastic classes as your child will have to listen, take advice, follow directions, and be respectful towards their peers and trainers. Kids are also encouraged to take turns and motivate one another to create bonds and foster a healthy, team atmosphere. A lot of gymnastic moves require one to put complete trust in their partner; this can help develop feelings of mutual trust and form relationship skills that would be useful in many walks of life.

Research and findings about the benefits of gymnastics

According to the study conducted by JCEM or Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, it was found that elite level of rhythmic gymnastics played a positive role in bone geometry and bone volume density in adolescent girls.

Symeon Tournis, M.D. of the University of Athens said that ?studies of adolescents have found that there is an association between weight-bearing exercise, bone strength, and bone density?. He proceeded to further state that rhythmic gymnastics significantly improve bone health given that the tendency of developing osteoporosis begin from childhood. Thus, continuing gymnastic training even beyond the adolescence years of girls, even if it?s less intensive, may play a role in protecting bones from fracture later in life.

If you want your child to grow up happy and healthy, you can sign them up for gymnastic lessons. All you have to do is do a bit of research on the local camps around you and then roll him or her to the best possible Institute. So what are you waiting for? Do it now!

What is Rhythmic Gymnastics?

Gymnastics is a well known sport that pairs strongly with the summer Olympics events that occur every 4 years and not to be confused with the winter Olympics which occurs every 2 years. Rhythmic Gymnastics is a woman-only event that challenges all their senses, every muscle fiber and mental focus to execute their performances gracefully and elegantly! Girls of many ages compete, we train the girls with our best Rhythmic coaches. The days we teach are on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and we are opening for Sunday!

Gymnastics has been a grand sport since the ages, the U.S. joined in the 70s and Rhythmic gymnastics rose to be integrated in the olympics and be adored by the world in the 80s.

Rhythmic Gymnastics consists of a floor to do their performance and a series of events, each being a performance of different equipment. In the end, their results are summed up for an overall score known as an All-Around score.

Information of each equipment were attained from here.

ball

The ball must be made of rubber or soft plastic, with a diameter of 18-20cm. It must weigh at least 400g.

ribbons

The ribbon is a single 7m strip of ribbon made from satin or a similar material. One metre of its length is folded and doubled so it may be attached by a cord to a cylindrical stick 50-60cm in length which the gymnast grasps. The ribbon must stay in perpetual, fluid motion throughout the routine.

clubs

Gymnasts work with two bottle-shaped clubs of equal length, 40-50cm, and resembling a slender tenpin bowling pin in shape. Made of wood or plastic and weighing at least 150g, the clubs have a wide end (the body), a tapering middle section (the neck), and usually a ball on the end (the head) with a maximum diameter of 30mm.

hoop

The hoop may be made of wood or plastic, with an inner diameter of 80 to 90 centimetres. It must weigh at least 300 grams. Performances must include at least three leaps.

rope

The rope, made from hemp or a similar material, has no set length because it is relative to the height of the gymnast. Performances must include at least three leaps.

Buzzfeed released an article of Rebecca Sereda interview, a silver medalist of the 2014 Olympics, on her perspective of Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Her perspective of Rhythmic Gymnastics is explained by how it may be misunderstood or perceived incorrectly to be questioned as a sport. It isn?t a sport of frolicking or just women having dance routines. Top competitors of the sport perform with techniques, timing and challenging executions with each equipment. To elaborate or give a better example, here is a video compilation of a few great performers in rhythmic gymnastics.

We have our own winners who are aiming beyond the sky's (and not limited to), Champions of the So-Cal State Championship 2016.

The sport is far from being a joke (let me emphasize the distance? FAAAAAAAAAAAAR) or dared to be stated as ?an easy sport?. If you read Rebecca?s interview, her challenge is the 6meter ribbon. Making it elegant without flaw or mistake to make knots.

LASG offers Rhythmic Gymnastics for all girls who have the passion, dedication and focus to tackle this sport and achieve feats not many could. Many enter and LASG is proud of each of them who keep trying and enjoy doing it. Majority go the distance in the championship. below are some of the lots who compete.
